ETHICAL ISSUES

Doctors and coaches face ethical issues when benching kids who have suffered concussions.

In recent years, doctors have improved their skills at diagnosing and treating sports related concussions.
There is an increased awareness of the seriousness of concussions through the media. However, the doctor's advice is not always followed through on the playing grounds.

Athletes who are a few days out from their concussion and are still experiencing symptoms, are going back to play sports too early becuase their parents and coaches will allow them even though they have not fully recovered.

A full recovery is mandatory for concussion patients or else it can lead to long-term symptoms and damage the brain further.

If an athlete hasn't fully recovered from their concussion but is still playing sports, it can increase their chances of getting another concussion which will worsen the symptoms.

In order to ensure a successful recovery, patients, their parents, & coaches must listen ot the doctors instructions in order to avoid future complications.

Therefore, coaches and parents have an ethical responsibility to ensure the safety of the children first, before allowing them to engage in the game/sport again.
