HOW ARE THEY CAUSED?
Concussions can be caused by a direct or indirect hit to the head or body. They can also occur when the head or upper body is violently shaken.
One of the most common reasons people get concussions is through a sports injury.
High-contact sports such as football, boxing, and hockey pose a higher risk of head injury, despite having the protective headgear.
A Statistics Canada survey in 2013 found that there were approximately 30,000 concussions or related head injuries reported annually among the 12-to-19-year-old age group. Sixty six per cent of those concussions were related to sports activity.
For males, the leading cause of a sports concussion is football. for females the leading cause of a sports concussion is soccer.

People can also get concussions from falls, car accidents, physical violence such as fighting, and any other type of incident that causes a direct or indirect hit to the head or body.
